August 5 marks National Work Like a Dog Day. Some dogs guide, protect, comfort, herd, and support people through incredibly difficult challenges. Others devote themselves to ensuring the floors are clean of any food that may have fallen. We respect the full spectrum of professional ambition.

One year ago, we sent the first issue of Therapist Brief out into the world with no idea where it might lead. Thank you for reading, responding, voting in our deeply scientific polls, and giving us a reason to keep showing up each week.

If July has arrived with no intention of slowing down, the news is getting under your skin, and someone has confidently said something appalling in a pub, welcome back. By the time you read this, England may be through to the World Cup semi-finals, although by putting that in writing Marianne has almost certainly wrecked it. We remain cautiously optimistic about the football, and rather more certain that mistakes and the general state of things are easier to carry in good company.
